General Information

About

After completing my primary and secondary education in Karaman, the city where I was born, I graduated from the medical faculty that I started in 1996 in 2002 and started my specialization in Istanbul Medical Faculty General Surgery Department in the same year. After completing my specialization in 2007 with the thesis ‘Deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis in surgical intensive care patients: Comparison of low molecular weight heparin with elastic stockings and intermittent compression stockings’, I continued my studies in the Liver-Biliary Tracts-Pancreas Surgery Unit of the same clinic. I have performed many advanced liver and pancreas surgeries (due to cancer-dominated diseases) and liver transplantation from a living/cadaver donor. In 2012, I studied Laparoscopic Liver and Pancreatic Surgery at Southampton University School of Medicine and received a certificate with “Robotic Surgery” ,after completing my Laparoscopic surgery training.

Expertise

Areas of expertise

  • Pancreatic Diseases
Pancreas is a soft, light yellow colored gland located behind the abdomen
(retroperitoneal) near the back, in front of the lumbar spine. The main artery,
which carries blood to the intestines, and the main artery (porta vein), which
carries the nutrients absorbed from the intestines to the liver, pass behind the pancreas.
  • Gallbladder and Bile Tract Diseases
I have a stone in my gallbladder, what should I do? The gallbladder is located on
the lower surface of the liver, in the groove that separates the right and left lobes.
Its volume is about 50 cc. The liver produces 500-1500 cc of bile per day. When food
is eaten, some hormone levels increase in the blood and cause the gallbladder to
contract and empty its contents into the duodenum.
  • Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery
What is Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery? Laparoscopic, or in other words, minimally
invasive technique or closed method surgery as it is known among the public, is a
special application area of surgery. With the developing technology, we can now
successfully perform liver surgeries in this way.
  • Digestive System Diseases
The stomach is a digestive organ, similar to a teapot, where food is ground. Patients
with complaints such as dysphagia, anemia, weight loss, and abdominal pain should
definitely undergo endoscopy. A biopsy can be done by seeing the mass in the stomach.

Frequently Asked Questions

❓ How safe is laparoscopic surgery?

Current technological developments, of course, also affect medical applications. Devices with better image quality, hand tools with increased mobility, devices that better convey some sensory a ctivities (eg tension) can be some examples. Advances like these have revolutionized the field of surgery. Laparoscopic and even robotic surgery can be performed as safely as open surgery.

❓ What are the clinical symptoms of pancreatic cancer?

Pancreatic cancer progresses insidiously and does not give obvious symptoms in the early period. Jaundice is the most common and earliest symptom. It initially occurs in the eyes, then turns yellow in the urine and skin. The pain is in the form of mild, radiating abdominal pain, previously described as vague abdominal pain. Anorexia and weight loss occur when it presses on the stomach and small intestine. Diabetes can be sudden onset or deterioration in blood sugar control in diabetic patients.

❓ Even though the stone in the gallbladder does not cause inflammation, is it still necessary to have an operation?

The biggest problem caused by stones formed and accumulated in the bladder is as follows; stones will be falling from the bladder to the main bile duct and obstructing the main bile duct and causing non-infectious jaundice, inflammation of the biliary tract and even the pancreatic duct. Proximity causes pancreatitis. There is no certainty as to when or how severe such situations will be, but once it causes a problem, it is more likely to happen the next time. For this reason, it would be best for people with stones that cause problems in the gallbladder to have their gallbladder removed. People who do not have gallbladder

❓ Is non-surgical treatment possible in pancreatic cancer?

Jaundice, which is infectious due to microbes, and jaundice, where the liver cannot adequately produce bile, is the specialty of the department of internal medicine. The most common cause of jaundice related to the general surgery field is the inability to empty the bile into the intestine because of the obstruction created by the gallstones. In this case, the bile fluid accumulates in the biliary tract and first fills the liver and then passes back to the blood, forming jaundice. Cancers formed in the biliary tract, gallbladder and head of the pancreas can also cause the same obstruction. In other words, these cancers may first appear with jaundice

❓ What is the best treatment for liver cancer?

The treatment of liver cancer is surgery if it is in suitable the location and size that can be operated. There is no better treatment than surgery. Removal of only the cancerous mass, removal of a part of the liver with the mass, or liver transplantation may be an option for surgery. In cancers that do not have a chance for surgery, drug treatment is tried, although the chance of success is very low. There may also be cancers that shrink to a size that can be operated after treatment.

❓ How is hepatitis B and C transmitted, how can it be protected?

Both viral diseases can be transmitted through blood and sexual intercourse. Unless there is an open wound or direct contact with blood, it cannot be transmitted by shaking hands, hugging, using the same plate or fork. In order to be protected, one should keep open wounds clean and protected, use a condom during sexual intercourse, avoid uncontrolled blood collection, and ensure the cleanliness of the tools and equipment in the environment during visits to the doctor or dentist. Apart from this, although it is not valid for hepatitis C, the most important way to prevent hepatitis B is to be vaccinated properly. With the vaccine, protection is provided close to 100%.

❓ What is the cause of liver cancers?

The most common known cause is cirrhosis due to inflammation caused by hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses, also known as jaundice microbes, and cancers developing accordingly. Later, cirrhosis occurs due to alcohol use, and cancers develop related to this in the liver.

❓ Is it possible to get rid of pancreatic cancer?

Even if the cancerous area is completely removed, the probability of recurrence of cancer in the first 5 years after surgery is higher than many other types of cancer.

❓ What are the causes of jaundice?

❓ What is the best treatment for pancreatic cancer?

The best treatment method is surgical removal of the cancerous part.
